nachteil von linux ist, dass es so stabil läuft und selten neu installiert werden muss. gibt dann mal die rechner-hardware den geist auf, hat sich so viel geändert in der linux-welt, dass man vieles wieder‑ oder neu lernen muss. macht zwar spass, ist aber mit arbeit verbunden. kürzliche lektionen bei mir:

• sata-platten spricht man besser mit ahci statt ide an (im bios umstellen)
• zieht man das alte system per von cd-gebooteten knoppix um, kümmert man sich um die einträge in/boot/grub/device.map
• die neuen partitions-ids kann man in/dev/disk/by-uuid nachschlagen und/etc/fstab eintragen
• debian grub überschreibt händisch eingetragene partitionen wieder durch uuid-labels, die aus auskommentierten optionen (“kopt=root=UUID=…“) übertragen werden

Jorge Ortiz reported that the wireless system in the iBook G4 is now fully supported in Debian for the PowerPC architecture. He pointed that kernel versions newer than 2.6.15-rc5 in conjunction with bcm43xxx drivers are needed. This airport extreme was not expected to work so soon.
